I've been developing my work supported by Arts Council's Developing Your Creative Practice funding.

The aim of my DYCP was to explore expanding my work and beginning to work at scale. This was split into three strands: shadowing a director at a large scale house during a rehearsal process, mentoring with producers and a period of R and D within a large to midscale theatre exploring the architecture of that space with a particular focus on using technology to aid the storytelling; a short trailer of which you can see here.

The shadowing time was spent at Schaubühne Berlin observing Alexander Zeldin as they rehearsed 'Beyond Caring'.

Our R&D time was hosted and mentored by Northern Stage. I worked with a new team of collaborators: Dramaturg Nazli Tabatabai-Khatambakhsh, Writer Olly Gully, Sound Designer Kieran Lucas and Videographer Adam Goodwin. We are currently planning to develop this work further and hope to create more together in 2023.

Dietrich: Natural Duty

“No, I never look backwards. You think I want to look back and say; ‘Oh, I was so wonderful.’ - Who cares?”

It is 1942: On the battlefields of North Africa in a gold sequin gown, Marlene Dietrich takes the stage to fight the war her way; with an irresistible mix of songs, sequins, sex and sympathy.

A one (wo)man tour de force, Dietrich: Natural Duty reveals the life of a legend “with honesty, humour and class.” The Stage

Created in collaboration with writer Olly Gully, Dietrich: Natural Duty was originally created in 2018 for VAULT Festival and was commissioned by Curious and Northern Stage.

Produced by Jimmy Jewell the show went on to run at the Pleasance Courtyard for the duration of Edinburgh Fringe. Since then we have toured to Wilton’s Music Hall, SoHo Playhouse NYC, Amsterdam Storytelling Festival, Théâtre de la Toison d'Or Brussels and UK festivals Curious and Homotopia, Liverpool. The show ran twice at the Adelaide Fringe ’19/20, winning the Critics Circle Award and Pick of the Fringe.

Go Away Johnny

"Some memories are so clear, that even if they happened years ago, they feel like yesterday. Others come back only for a moment; in an encounter, a touch, a conversation."

Go Away Johnny is a blend of dance, theatre and performance exploring the nature of memory. Set on a giant sheepskin rug, six performers search for connection with each other, their lives lost and the memories that bring them together.

The first phase of development for this piece began in February 2017 supported by Arts Council England. We created a 40 minute piece which premiered at DanceCity, Newcastle With further support from Arts Council England, DanceCity and ARC the piece has become our first full length work.
